World Class Safety

Thomas & Marker’s Health and Safety Program includes initiatives and procedures which insure workplace safety of the highest level. The commitment of our Senior Management has been essential in setting the tone and continually “raising the bar” on the safety standards and expectations. In addition, a committee of associates assists the Safety Department in making our safety program an industry leader.

Safety attributes include:

0.42 Experience Modification Rate (EMR):
	Based on our favorable claims experience, this rate is less than half of what the competition pays in workers' compensation premiums. These savings are passed on to our clients.

OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP):
	Thomas & Marker is one of very few companies in the general construction industry to qualify for coveted OSHA VPP status. Our commitment to this program demonstrates the importance we place upon the safety of our associates and anyone else coming in contact with our business operations.

OSHA Authorized Instructor:
	The OSHA-authorized, on-staff instructor works to develop, maintain, and deliver pertinent seminars and training sessions. All associates are required to take OSHA 10-hour training and all Supervisors are required to take the more rigorous OSHA 30-hour training.

Safety Pre-planning:
	Before any work begins, our company safety professionals assess the project jobsite in an effort to realistically determine any potential safety hazards and threats. The appropriate steps are taken to eliminate/minimize these risks. This has been found to be a cornerstone in incident prevention and is an initiative of the company safety committee.

Management Commitment:
	Not only is Thomas & Marker's Management committed to safety - there is ZERO TOLERANCE of any unsafe practices/choices or any recklessness or disregard of safety standards and procedures.

Associate Involvement:
	By requiring all associates to participate in our various safety initiatives, and encouraging them to share safety ideas and incentives, the safety program continually evolves within the company culture. Safety procedures and precautions are viewed by all as smart and positive.
